I'm not sure if you have ever had a job that required cold calling, but it is an experience like no other. My husbands job requires that he cold call about 40 businesses a day, so when he is extremely busy with appointments, I will help him by making the cold calls with the intent of setting new appointments for him. One would think that calling a business phone number, there might be a modicum of professionalism on the other end. Oh would that ever be a terrible assumption to make. Do you know there are people who actually answer their business phones by yelling "WHAT!?!?!" into the phone? I didn't know that either until recently. One of the business I called today, the man who answered the phone was sure I was a recording. Even after I said several things to convince him otherwise, he kept asking me if I was the one that did all those recorded messages that he keeps getting.... really? I sound like a recording? I had no idea, but think I should consider a career change, at least I wont hear the people yelling at me.
So after a full day of "phone work" I think dinner is going to be an "easy fix". I actually had lofty ambitions and was going to pick up some cod or haddock fillets and make homemade fish sticks, but alas the fishmonger only had salmon and tilapia in stock. What is up with that any way? So I decided the Gortons of Gloucester fisherman could come for dinner instead.... I can hear you now "Cheater cheater pumpkin eater" LOL! Well, yea, I bet even Julia Childs had a Big Mac now and then.
So much for my blog being about kitchen adventures and the fabulous gourmet meals... maybe tomorrow I will make something photo worthy.
Until then keep the vodka chillin'

A humble dinner
Tonight was a meal that morphed. It started out as a chunk of pork loin (not tenderloin) that I had pulled from the freezer this morning. When I poked through the fridge, I found some gorgeous mushrooms so I decided maybe a pork marsala. As I was slicing and flattening the medallions, it occurred to me I wasn't in the mood for marsala, I wanted more if a piccata type sauce. Grabbed the lemons and capers from the fridge, oh look, there is the Dijon, that would be good and as I was swinging the door shut, the lo fat sour cream caught my eye. So we ended up with pork medallions in an onion, mushroom, caper, lemon, dijon, sour cream sauce over rice with steamed broccoli and a salad. I probably should have taken notes on amounts, but I didn't so this may be one of those "One of a kind" meals that can never be recreated. Oh well - it was good while it lasted.
In the beginning........
And this is where is all starts. The inspiration for even attempting this comes from a dear friend who has been talking about "blogging" for years, and I read her first two entries today. I am so proud of her, I hope she realizes she is my inspiration for ME to give this a shot too. Let me say this, I hope my blogging endeavors do not follow my promises to exercise more. I am really good at starting exercise programs, but after a week I have lost interest and it sort of goes by the wayside until the next flurry of activity hits. So we shall see.... if I make it to Thanksgiving, there is hope it may continue! So dear reader, bear with me while I take my baby steps into the world of blogdom.
